Sign Up & Profile
-
What do I need to sign up
Signing up is quick and easy! To get started, you’ll need:
✅ A valid email address and phone number
✅ A government-issued ID (for identity verification)
✅ A bank account or debit card (to receive payments)
Once your profile is complete and verified, you can start applying for shifts right away!
-
What is identity verification & why is it required?
Identity verification ensures that all contractors on Shifty are real people and eligible to work. It is handled securely through Stripe, our payment provider. You’ll be asked to submit:
✅ A selfie
✅ A photo of your government-issued ID
Shifty does not store your ID—it is processed directly through Stripe’s secure system for verification.
-
What happens if my identity verification fails?
If your verification is unsuccessful, Stripe will provide instructions to try again. Double-check that:
• Your selfie matches your ID photo
• Your ID is clear, valid, and not expired
• You are in a well-lit area when taking the photos
If issues persist, contact support@gotshifty.com for assistance.
-
What information should I include in my profile?
A strong profile helps you get hired faster. Be sure to include:
• Your experience (roles you’ve worked in restaurants)
• Any certifications (TIPS, ServSafe, etc.)
• A well written bio
• A professional headshot
-
Can I update my profile after signing up?
Yes! You can update your experience, certifications, and availability anytime in the Profile section of the app.
-
Are contractors insured through Shifty?
As independent contractors, workers on Shifty are responsible for their own insurance coverage. We encourage all contractors to have their own liability insurance. Restaurants may request proof of coverage directly from the contractor if needed.
Finding & Applying for Shifts
-
How do I find available shifts?
Open the Find Shifts tab in the app to browse open opportunities. You can use filters to narrow your search, view restaurant profiles, read reviews from other contractors, and apply to shifts that fit your schedule.
-
Can I apply for multiple shifts that have the same date & time?
Yes! But if you’re accepted for a shift, the app will automatically withdraw any conflicting applications to avoid scheduling issues.
-
What if I need to cancel a shift?
Life happens—but canceling last minute can affect your standing on the platform. If you must cancel, do it ASAP in the app on the Shift Details page so another contractor can take your spot.
During a Shift
-
How do I check in when I arrive?
Go to the shift in the app and tap “Start Shift”. The restaurant will confirm your check-in.
-
What if I’m running late?
Communicate with the restaurant through the app’s messaging feature to let them know. Repeated lateness can impact your ability to book future shifts.
-
Can I leave early if I finish my work?
As a 1099 contractor you are free to end the shift at any time. However, it is in your best interest to ensure the restaurant is happy with your services before leaving.
-
What happens if a restaurant cancels my shift?
You’ll receive a notification. Just as we encourage contractors to provide as much heads up as possible, we do the same with restaurants.
-
What should I do if I feel unsafe?
Your safety is our top priority. If you ever feel unsafe during a shift, remove yourself from the situation immediately and seek a safe location. Once safe, you can end the shift & report the issue by reaching out to us at support@gotshifty.com.
If you feel you are in immediate danger, call 911.
Shifty takes all safety concerns seriously, and we will review reports to determine appropriate action, including investigating incidents and addressing concerns with the restaurant.
Getting Paid
-
How do I get paid?
Payments are processed through Stripe and sent directly to your linked bank account.
-
What is Stripe?
Stripe is a trusted and secure payment processor that handles identity verification and payments for Shifty. They ensure that you get paid quickly and securely after completing a shift.
Stripe is used by major companies such as Airbnb & Lyft, and your payment information is stored in their secure system.
-
How is the pay calculated?
Your pay is based on the hourly rate set by the restaurant and the actual hours you work. When your shift ends, Shifty confirms your hours in the app, and your earnings are calculated accordingly.
If your shift is extended, you’ll be paid for the extra time. If it ends early, you’ll be paid for the hours worked.
-
Are there any fees?
Shifty does not take a cut of your earnings. You keep 100% of what you make.
-
Are taxes deducted from my earnings?
Nope! As a 1099 contractor, you’re responsible for handling your own taxes. If you make over the required threshold, you’ll receive a 1099 form for tax purposes.
Ratings & Reviews
-
Do restaurants rate me?
Yes. After your shift, the restaurant can leave a rating and review based on your performance.
-
Can I rate restaurants?
Yes! After each shift, you can rate your experience and leave feedback on the restaurant. This helps other contractors know what to expect.
-
What if I receive a bad review?
If you receive a negative review, don’t panic—it happens! Reviews are based on restaurant feedback and help maintain quality on the platform. If you believe a review is unfair or inaccurate, you can submit a dispute by reaching out to support@gotshifty.com.
While individual reviews won’t necessarily affect your ability to book shifts, consistently low ratings may impact your chances of being selected by restaurants. The best way to maintain a strong reputation is to show up on time, communicate clearly, and do your best on each shift.
